Keeping you happy is the fine print of my job description while you're here. And you can't blame me for wanting to go the extra mile above that!
No backing out on this end, I promise. And ... no, I don't think I have. Not for a long time. Sometimes I try to go with the flow but I always end up in a position where I plan things out in the long run anyway. Do you always go with the flow, Childe?
So it's all in a day's work for you then, hm~ Well, if it helps you feel accomplished before going to bed.
It's how I like to operate. I find it easier to just go about doing what I feel in the moment rather than thinking ahead. The future is full of uncertainty after all. You should try it some time, housekeeper. It's quite freeing.
You almost sound like a true Mondstadter with that sort of thinking. Have you ever been? I think you'd love it there, even if I'm basing it off of my very old memories.
I'll try taking your advice the next time I'm on vacation, then! No need to plan out a schedule too much when there aren't supposed to be any meetings or appointments~ The only problem is I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to take a day off... but I promise I'll remember!
I haven't... [ 😭 ] But I know you'd love it there! There's Angel's Share, with all the dandelion wine you could hope for, and you need to try Sticky Honey Roast and Mondstadt Hash Browns! Plus it's very beautiful, although I may be a little biased in that regard. It's so open and the winds are always so soothing.
Ah, I guess I don't see it as unfair? I feel more like myself when I'm running around with a purpose, if anything. Although, that almost really sounds as though you're concerned for me.♪
From what I've heard, it does sound like a nice place... But maybe a little too peaceful for my liking. You know I quite like a bit of chaos. Perhaps that's the reason I've become so enamored with Inazuma.
[ a bit, he says... ]
So you never tire of running errands and being told what to do?
Hm, if I sound concerned, it's only because I was placing myself in your shoes.
Really? No other reason you've become so enamored with Inazuma, Childe~?
As long as I have purpose, I won't tire, no. It's a lot like what you do for the Tsaritsa, isn't it? My master just oversees a commission and a household, and the country on a smaller scale.
Ah, I do that sometimes. So if you're wondering why I'm so insistent on feeding you so much, it's because I don't want you to forget Inazuma in all your travels! Maybe one day, you'll be in Sumeru and taste something that reminds you of us. Of me.
Hm~ It sounds like you have an idea for what the other reasons might be. What are you thinking of?
And I can understand that if it's something you enjoy, you wouldn't tire over doing it. You're quite lucky in that regard, having your work and your passion coincide.
[ working for the Tsaritsa also means Childe gets to deal with a lot of fights and battles in her name, activities he greatly enjoys participating in — which is probably something he shouldn't mention to the Chief Retainer. ]
Oh, I had no idea your intentions for taking care of me are based off your own greed.
[ if only Thoma could hear him, he would know that Childe is teasing. ]
The food. And maybe me... and maybe not necessarily in that order?
[ if Childe is imagining Thoma with puppy eyes, it would be an accurate portrayal. ]
I'm grateful to be so lucky every day, as I'm sure you are too. It's one of those things that help us understand each other so well, I think.
My apologies. Perhaps I should have let you continue thinking I'm all bark with no bite?♪ As good as I try to be, I'm still selfish about a great many things, I'm afraid. I hope it doesn't scare you.
[ Childe should just change his name to Coy at this point. ]
There's only one thing that scares me and I assure you that your greed is nothing in comparison to it.
[ it's seeing his family in danger... 😔 ]
But I would much prefer to know the real you so you need not apologize. This does lead me to wonder though what great many things do you feel selfish for.
Not going to tell me if I'm right, huh? It's okay.♪ I'm going to stay hopeful.
Would it be strange if I said it's almost relieving, to know that there's at least one thing you're scared of? Otherwise, I would worry about you even more.
You already know me better than most. And hey! If you want to know more about me, I want to know more about you in return. We can start with whether or not I'm right about what draws you to Inazuma~
But worrying about you doesn't mean I don't think you're incapable of taking care of yourself. You have people you worry about, don't you? Simply because you care about them and not because they can't take care of themselves?
I'm also realistic as well. And opportunistic~
Is it hard for you to admit that I'm right, or that you care?
Younger siblings can be difficult... or so I gather, from how many families I see. But they are your siblings, Childe. If they're anything like their big brother, I bet they're tougher than they look, too.
[ although it's very cute to know Childe worries about his family.... oh no... 💘💗 ]
I can fight! If I asked you to spar with me as a date, would you agree to it? And more importantly, would you go all out?
If it's any consolation, I promise I won't make any assumptions about it.
Does your Master Ayato find his younger sibling difficult?
I believe you can fight but the question is can you last long in one~
But of course, I would agree to spar with you as a date. Sparring is an ideal way to spend time. You get to know all kinds of things about a person when you're in combat. And I think you would agree that it would be rude not to go all out. You should do the same when you're fighting against me.
Making assumptions is human nature. That's a difficult thing to promise.
Difficult? Not at all! Why? Do your siblings give you trouble~?
I suppose we'll have to find out, won't we? And since you've already said you'd agree, I think this means we should spar very soon! Maybe I have a few tricks up my sleeve that will surprise you.♪ And I will, I promise. You're right about learning all kinds of things from someone in combat anyway.
But I know I can keep it! There are still many things I don't know about you, and it makes me wary to assume anything about you, apart from what you've already told me... Can you believe that, at least?
I was wondering if that is why you had mentioned that younger siblings are difficult. They are the family you are in contact with almost everyday, after all. And by difficult, I mean does your Master worry over his younger sibling often. I've come across her once and she seems to act quite mature for her age.
Telling me that you have a few tricks will only let me expect them~ You should be careful what you say to me, housekeeper.
Well, I suppose you've given me no reason not to believe that you would keep your promises so... Alright. I trust you.
I know many other families...! The children of the staff I oversee, and the people I see out on the streets. Milady has had to grow up too quickly, with everything that's happened and her desire to help her brother, but we try to make sure she gets a chance to have fun when she can.
Maybe I'm putting you through more of a mind game than you think, Harbinger~ But as long as you have fun, I'll consider all outcomes a win.
Recently, I've learned about beetle fighting. And I find things like exercise and sparring genuinely fun, although perhaps not on the same level you do. Cooking, too! It's always nice to see new recipes work out or taste something new and unusual. And when the merchant ships come through, I love seeing what they've brought for sale. Apple cider from Mondstadt is a very good alternative to dandelion wine, in my opinion.
Worry about yourself, sir.♪ I look forward to pinning you down at least once.
Ah, not quite but it's great fun! Some people like going out and finding the biggest beetles, other people actually prefer the fighting aspect. But the beetles are fighting on your behalf~
The beetles are fighting on your behalf? That doesn't sound as fun as actually fighting for yourself. I'll have to check out these battles of the beetles one of these days.

You're underestimating how good I am at entertaining myself~ I'll only hold anything against you if you decide to back out last minute.
Already thinking so far ahead! Have you ever just gone with the flow of things before?

[ he's the type that spoils his siblings so... his siblings have turned out quite sheltered. ]
You are also one to worry about. I'm not sure how you would hold in a fight on your own and you seem to enjoy working yourself into exhaustion.
